This is my friend, Julie. Hi, Julie.
I've known Julie for a long time. We grew up in church together and her Mom played the piano and sometimes Julie would turn the pages for her. That always made me kind of jealous. I don't know why - maybe because she got to stand on the stage? Or because her Mom always had really cool designs on her nails? I know, I have issues.
But I guess seeing all the spiffy designs on her Mom's nails all those years triggered something creative in Julie's mind, because now she's a wedding planner and event designer and she gets to spend all day helping other people nail down their ideal wedding. She gets to play with lighting and cupcake stands and drapery that looks like the set of I Dream of Jeannie. Yes, I'm still jealous.
Julie asked me to come photograph her most recent design show at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Center in downtown Frederick (one of my most favorite places, just in case you were thinking about hiring me for your engagement photos and needed an ideal location - just sayin')and despite being entirely too pregnant, I didn't want to miss out. So I wobbled and hobbled my way from the parking garage to the Arts Center and, as I expected, Julie didn't disappoint.
I'll let the photos do the talking for now, but let me just say this - I wish I'd thought to call Julie when I was wedding planning last year. There were so many choices, so many colors, so many patterns (what the difference is between eggshell and off-white, I'll never know) but Julie has a fantastic way of narrowing it all down and making something lovely out of chaotic ideas.
So if you're in the market for a wedding planning or an event designer or you just need a little sanity, you can check out more of Julie's work with her company, Design Diva in Frederick, MD.
Thanks for inviting me along, Julie! And many thanks to all the fabulous vendors who contributed to the show:
