I met Michael and Daphne a few months ago to chat about their summer wedding celebration. I liked them instantly. You probably will, too, because it seems they have that sort of effect on people wherever they go. For the two of them, adventure is everywhere. It's where you make it. It's sneaking a Chipotle burrito into Panera to meet your photographer! Colorado, Massachusetts, South America - adventure is in being together.
Daphne and Michael were married last summer on the beach, it was a teensy ceremony with just six people, including a photographer. At first, they didn't say much about it, but after a few minutes together, things started to unfold. Michael carrying Daphne across a newly-formed river in the street after a rain storm ripped through. Daphne telling me about their three months in South America and what it's like to stand in front of Machu Picchu. I could see how incredibly special their wedding day was to them, the way they talked about it, the way they smiled and nudged each other when a special memory came to the surface. They are both incredibly kind and smart people all on their own, but together, it becomes amplified.
So a year later, they invited everyone to St. James School where Daphne teaches Spanish (of course!) to celebrate. When I arrived, it was hot alright, but it was also all hands on deck. Their friends and family rallied together to make their celebration day incredible - they frosted cupcakes, hung lights, set up chairs, and played music. Such camaraderie, I have never seen. But more than that, it was their words. Their support, encouragement, and genuine helpfulness was such a reflection of the kind of people Daphne and Michael are - dear friends to so many.
Their celebration was fully loaded - with hugs, with delicious chana masala, with heartfelt words and wicked dance moves. I am so grateful I got to be a part of it. Michael and Daphne - you two are cut from the same cloth. I can't wait to see where your next adventure will take you.
